Comwell Hotels takes over Radisson hotel in Odense

4 November 2019

On 1 January 2020, Comwell will move into Denmark's third largest city for the first time when they take over the running of Radisson Blu H.C. Andersen Hotel in Odense, along with the congress facilities in the music and theatre venue ODEON and Odense Concert Hall, which are adjacent to the hotel. Comwell already runs Comwell Kongebrogaarden and Comwell Middelfart on Funen.

From 1 January 2020, Comwell Hotels will become the operator of the existing Radisson Blu H.C. Andersen Hotel in Odense. The takeover is part of a greater strategic decision by the Comwell Group to expand into larger cities. Comwell Hotels is in the process of building its first and largest hotel in Copenhagen, which opens in January 2021, and has also laid down expansion plans for their hotels in Aarhus and Kolding.

Group CEO of Comwell Hotels, Peter Schelde, is looking forward to bringing Comwell to Odense:
”The takeover of this hotel doesn't just give us our third hotel on Funen. We're also gaining meeting and conference facilities with a large capacity and many opportunities centrally located in the middle of the country in Denmark's third largest city. This is very much in line with our strategy of expanding into major cities. With us as operator of the hotel and the excellent, new conference facilities in ODEON, we will stand even stronger in the market with our well-known brand, a good management team and a well-developed meeting concept. So I look forward to bringing Comwell to Odense for the first time in our 50-year history,” says Peter Schelde

Radisson Blu H.C. Andersen Hotel Odense is owned by Lillebælt Gruppen A/S.

CEO and owner of Lillebælt Gruppen A/S, Jens Belling, looks forward to the new collaboration with Comwell Hotels:
”Comwell's assumption of the operation of H.C. Andersen Hotel is the right move for us, the employees, the guests and Odense. Comwell is one of the heavyweights in the Danish meeting and conference market. We are proud to join forces with an organisation that has won and been nominated as the best hotel chain of the year in Denmark several times. With Comwell as our day-to-day operator, we ensure that H.C. Andersen Hotel and ODEON remain a major player in Odense, which can attract more and larger conferences to Odense with their proven and strong concepts,” says Jens Belling.

Comwell will significantly increase the meeting and conference capacity
In conjunction with the transfer, the hotel will change its name to Comwell H.C. Andersen Odense. The hotel is located in the city centre – close to the train station, the motorway and Odense Airport – and has 157 rooms, a restaurant and meeting and conference facilities for up to 1,200 people in the Carl Nielsen Hall in the Odense Concert Hall, which adjoins the hotel.

The operation agreement with Lillebælt Gruppen A/S also stipulates that Comwell Hotels will take over the operation of ODEON's conference facilities. ODEON is the city's new music, theatre and conference venue and has 24 meeting and conference rooms spread over 13,500 m2 - the largest of which can accommodate up to 1,740 people. ODEON had 250,000 guests and held more than 300 events in 2018.

Odense has great expectations for Comwell as a new operator in the city:
”Comwell's takeover of the running of H.C. Andersen Hotel and ODEON will be really good for Odense. Not only do they come with many years of experience, they also come with a well-known brand that will contribute to increased growth in terms of revenue, more conferences for the city and jobs. It will benefit the whole city,” says Odense's mayor, Peter Rahbæk Juel.

New hotel director from own ranks
The existing hotel manager at Comwell Sorø, Ninna Stæhr-Petersen, will be heading the new hotel, Odense Concert Hall and the many activities in ODEON, and she will be appointed hotel director at the time of the transfer.

Ninna Stæhr-Petersen is 34 years old and a well-known face in the hospitality and hotel industry. In 2014, she was employed as restaurant manager at Comwell Hvide Hus Aalborg, and in 2016 she was appointed hotel manager for Himmerland Golf and Spa Resort before taking up the position as hotel manager at Comwell Sorø in 2018.

All the existing employees at Radisson Blu H.C. Andersen Hotel, Odense Concert Hall and at ODEON will continue in their current jobs.
