Tour de Sommer-Danmark with Comwell Kolding as base
"Is it today, is it today, IS IT TODAY?"
As a family with children with Danish holiday plans, day trips to amusement parks, museums, playgrounds and zoos are often on the agenda, and for the full holiday experience, hotel accommodation is an obvious option. But can you take both young and old on an overnight stay at Comwell? This family from Greve gives an insight into this after visiting Comwell Kolding.

After a marvellous stay in Middelfart, we are now on our way to new adventures. Comwell Kolding is our next destination and after a short 20-minute drive, we park the car in Kolding and announce our arrival. Until our room is ready, we have a quick lunch at the hotel, provided by the sweet waiter, Jørgen.
"Remember to say 'hands off' if your mum and dad want to steal your fries," Jørgen says to Theo as his huge portion of chicken nuggets and fries lands in front of him.
Just like at Comwell Middelfart, we are welcomed with open arms in Kolding - and children's bags with new Comwell Coins. This time dad is lucky, because Theo's Comwell Coins will be used for a deck of playing cards and a game of Black Peter. In the reception and bar area, there are sofas and games for the whole family, places to work including plenty of power sockets, and to the right of the reception there is also a children's room.
Jørgen also recommends the large play park just 10 min. walk from the hotel, so we hurry down there. The 6-year-old takes a ride on the climbing frames and a round in the Moon-Car on the traffic lane, and then we all take a ride together in the bike boats. We sail around the small island where you'll find a play tower modelled on Koldinghus, the old royal castle from the 13th century in Kolding, which still stands and is now a museum. Definitely worth a visit - both the play park and the real Koldinghus in the centre of town.
Swimming pool and ice cream
And then back to the hotel. A swim in the pool awaits us here before dinner, which is a summer buffet with everything that smells of summer - not least a large ice cream buffet with old-fashioned ice cream cones, scoops, marshmallows, cream puffs and the whole rainbow palette of toppings.
Hotel packed lunch to take on a trip
"Is it today? Is it today? IS IT TODAY?" is the first thing Theo asks when he opens his eyes. It's the day before the day of the trip to Legoland, but first both young and old need to energise their engines at the breakfast buffet, which once again does not disappoint.
Something else that doesn't disappoint is the option to pack a packed lunch from the buffet. So we pack munchies, fruit, nuts, rye bread crackers, small pancakes and a couple of croissants in our packed lunch, while dad fills two to-go coffee cups for the drive to the next stop.
And then it's off to Legoland.
The excitement in the car towards the land of bricks is unmistakable, which is why it's great that the journey there is no longer. We park 40 minutes later, scan our tickets and have a fantastic day at Legoland from the park opens until it closes - a full day that fills up the experience account.
"So, Theo, is it all approved?" Thomas asks as we leave the car park again eight hours later: "Have the days with the bouncy castle, restaurant visits, breakfast buffet, sleeping in a hotel and drawing competitions been good?"
But there is no answer. The 6-year-old has given up after the last few days on the road and is now sleeping soundly in the back seat. But we have no doubt - the silence is an answer that everything has been perfect.
Thank you for this time, fantastic Comwell. We'll definitely be back when we do another Tour de Sommer-Danmark.
