Odense hotel joins world's largest hotel brand

06 December 2021

Wyndham Hotels & Resorts made its entry into Scandinavia in 2019 with the signing of an exclusive agreement between the Danish-owned hotel chain Comwell Hotels and the international hotel brand Wyndham Hotels & Resorts. The agreement entails a strategic and international sales collaboration on bookings for overnight stays and meetings as well as a comprehensive loyalty programme. With 9,000 hotels spread out across 95 countries, Wyndham Hotels & Resorts is the world's largest hotel franchise company by number of properties.

Peter Schelde, CEO of Comwell Hotels, looks forward to adding another hotel to the international partnership.
"Comwell has received a fantastic reception in Odense, and we feel that Odense is flourishing both as a city and as a destination. On top of that, the city is making investments in becoming a more attractive tourist destination, such as with the opening of the new H.C. Andersen House. It was therefore only natural that we, on top of our own strong brand, are expanding our global collaboration with Wyndham Hotels & Resorts to also include our beautiful hotel that’s located right in the centre of Odense. With the double brand "Comwell/Dolce by Wyndham", Odense will now have an international hotel, and Wyndham Hotels & Resorts - with its vast international network, especially in Asia and the USA - can help attract even more international tourists to Odense and Funen," said Peter Schelde.

As part of its overarching strategic decision to expand into Denmark’s big cities, Comwell Hotels took over operation of the hotel along with the conference facilities in the music and theatre building ODEON as well as the Odense Concert Hall on 1 January 2020. The hotel chain already operates Comwell Kongebrogaarden and Comwell Middelfart on Funen.

Dimitris Manikis, President, Wyndham Hotels & Resorts EMEA, added:
“We are thrilled to be adding Odense to our strong portfolio of Dolce by Wyndham destinations across Europe.  Our fruitful partnership with Comwell Hotels has been instrumental in the growth of our Dolce by Wyndham brand in Denmark and we look forward to bringing even more accommodation and meeting options to the region. At Wyndham Hotels & Resorts we are committed to our mission of making travel possible for all and this collaborative opening supports us on our journey of fulfilling this goal.”

About Comwell H.C. Andersen Odense
Comwell H.C. Andersen Odense was built in 1979 as a new and modern tourist hotel in the middle of the historical H.C. Andersen district in the centre of the city, in close proximity to the railway station, motorway and Odense Airport. Odense Concert Hall was built at the same time as the hotel. Currently, the hotel has 157 newly renovated rooms, a large newly renovated restaurant as well as meeting and conference facilities. The hotel is located just a few metres from the world-famous poet's birthplace and the new H.C. Andersen Museum, one of this year's major new attractions in Denmark. Designed by the famous Japanese architect Kengo Kuma, the 12,600 m2 museum consists of an indoor and outdoor area packed with experiences for its visitors.
