How does Comwell incorporate ESG into its day-to-day operations? This was the focus of a visit by a delegation from Singapore to Comwell Copenhagen Portside – Dolce by Wyndham, as they sought to gain an insight into specific initiatives and draw inspiration for the work within their own organisations.
Comwell Hotels has once again been named Best Hotel Chain in Denmark at the Danish Travel Awards 2026. The Danish, family-owned hotel chain repeats last year’s success in an award based on consumers’ own experiences.
The Danish family-owned hotel group is changing the composition of its commercial management team. The change is intended to simplify the management structure and strengthen the execution of Comwell’s existing strategy.
Most companies book conferences reactively. A need arises, venues are researched, quotations are requested, and the event is planned within the time available. The result is often higher prices, fewer options and more stress for the person responsible for planning.
There is a better approach. By mapping out your meeting and conference needs in an annual calendar and booking strategically, you can secure better rates, access to the most sought-after dates and more predictable budget management.
You have been planning for three months. The programme is ready, the participants are confirmed and the meeting rooms are booked. Then a speaker calls to cancel. Or your participant numbers double because senior management has invited an additional department. Or the technology fails 30 minutes before the meeting starts.
Some meetings require more than a good meeting room. When the board comes together, when terms are being negotiated with a potential business partner, or when senior management needs to make decisions that are not yet public, the setting must meet very specific requirements. Confidentiality, quality in every detail and service that is attentive without being intrusive.
Many companies book conferences and meetings on an ad hoc basis. Each event starts from scratch: a new venue, a new contact person, and new arrangements for technology, food and refreshments, and accommodation. It works, but it is inefficient. Every booking requires research, negotiation and coordination, taking time away from what really matters: the content of the meetings.
2.00 pm on a conference day. The presentation is important, but half the room is struggling to keep their eyes open. Concentration has gone. Energy levels have dropped. It is the classic post-lunch slump, and it is rarely down to an uninspiring programme. It is down to lunch.
By bringing housekeeping in-house at five hotels on Zealand, Comwell is taking on the task itself in order to strengthen team spirit, quality and staff well-being.
Conferences, client events and company parties are a natural part of doing business. But the tax rules governing business entertainment can be complex, and mistakes can have real consequences. Knowing the rules before you book can help you avoid unpleasant surprises when it is time to finalise the accounts.
Many meetings now take place digitally. We have learned to master that. But there is a middle ground between an in-person meeting and a fully virtual meeting that remains underused in most organisations: the hybrid conference. A format that allows participants to join from multiple locations without those attending in person losing the sense of connection and dynamic interaction that make a meeting worth travelling for.
There is a world of difference between a meeting for 10 participants and a conference for 1,000. Perhaps, over the course of a year, you hold both strategy meetings for senior management and an annual kick-off for the entire organisation? The logistical requirements are naturally very different, and a venue that works well for 50 people may not be able to accommodate your needs when you require space for several hundred.
Most conferences are evaluated based on gut feeling. “It went well.” “The participants seemed happy.” “The food was good.” But can you demonstrate that the event was worth the investment? And can you use data from this conference to make the next one even better?
Few things undermine a professional presentation faster than technology that does not work. A presentation that will not open. A microphone with feedback. A video signal that disappears in the middle of a live demonstration for the board. These situations cost more than time. They cost credibility.
Where you hold your next conference, kick-off or seminar sends a message. To your employees, new talent and the business partners attending. The setting says something about who you are as a company and shows that you invest in your employees. It demonstrates to the outside world that you take your own ambitions seriously.
When a company needs to document its carbon footprint, conferences and meeting activities can form part of its carbon accounting. But how do you ensure that your choice of venue actually provides the documentation you need for your reporting? And what should you look for when choosing a conference venue with ESG reporting in mind?
Executive management meetings are a significant investment of valuable time. When six to ten of a company’s most experienced leaders spend an entire day together, every minute counts. Yet agendas are often packed from morning to evening, with no breaks, variety or time for reflection. The result is exhausted participants and decisions that only take shape weeks after the meeting – if at all.
When you bring colleagues together from across the country for a meeting or conference, one factor often determines whether the day starts with energy or frustration: travel time. An extra hour in the car or on the train for 50 participants doesn't just mean 50 hours lost. It means energy levels are already depleted before the first agenda item even begins.
My first month as hotel manager at Comwell Rebild Bakker has been full of new experiences, meetings with staff and an insight into a large family-owned Danish hotel chain.
Most companies invest significant resources in strategy seminars and management meetings. Travel time, venues, catering and, not least, the time participants spend away from their day-to-day responsibilities. But how often do these meetings lead to real change? And what can you do to increase the likelihood that the decisions made in the meeting room actually lead to action afterwards?
For the fifth year running, former employees – Comwell Alumni – gathered for a reunion evening filled with strong bonds, shared pride and cherished memories from a long working life.
The price of a conference room is rarely the true cost of a conference. When comparing venues, it's tempting to look at the day rate per participant and choose the cheapest option. But hidden costs can quickly outweigh the savings you thought you were making.
An annual meeting is a significant investment. Not just financially, but also in terms of time, planning and the expectations of participants, management and the board. Choose the wrong venue, and you'll notice it in everything from technical issues to participants spending more energy on logistics than on the content.
